Tom Hood

President and Chief Executive Officer

Tom Hood brings over 25 years of experience in the solar materials business to XeroCoat. Prior to joining XeroCoat in August2007 Tom was the President and CEO of Southwall Technologies (OTC: SWTX) of Palo Alto, California. Southwall is a leading provider of innovative coatings for high-performance building and automotive glass worldwide. After joining Southwall in 1981 when it was a start-up, Tom lead the company’s product and business development activities, resulting in 10 U.S. patents that formed the backbone of the company’s global expansion and growth to $85M in sales. As CEO of Southwall from 1998, Tom drove the company’s manufacturing expansion in Dresden, Germany with a state-of-the-art sputter-coating facility, employing 100 people, to supply IR-reflecting products to the automotive glass industry. Tom’s innovative energy-saving and award-winning products have been used in millions of automobiles and buildings in over 30 countries, having had a substantial positive impact on energy consumption. Prior to Southwall, Tom performed DOE-sponsored research in the areas of building-integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV) and automated installation of large-scale solar farms. This PV work was a continuation of his graduate engineering studies which were focused on direct energy conversion technologies of all types, including solar concentrating and thermal systems. Tom holds a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Union College.
